The book of Jonah, life and my reflections #9
Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown" (Jonah 3,4)
Jonah exclaims: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown" - these days the protest of the disabled continues in Israel; They block roads and demonstrate aggressively. My sister's friend arrived late for a meeting and apologized: "What chutzpah, they are holding everyone back ..." My sister answered her: "You do not know what you're talking about, you have no idea what difficulties disabled people face and how much money and help they need to do simple things!" Indeed, the Sages said: "You cannot judge a person until you reach his place." Every small defect in the sidewalk is a great obstacle to a person sitting in a wheelchair. Nadav, my son, parked his car at the shopping center in Kibbutz Yagur in a disabled parking lot, but a woman parked (intentionally) her car so close to his car that he was unable to get down the hydraulic lift to get in. For 20 long minutes he searched for the lady and when she finally arrived she started yelling at him as if he was guilty of something ... As a general rule, I think that to their good fortune, people are not aware of the difficulties faced by any disabled person - simply because they have not experienced it on their own. Correct education can help.
"וַיָּחֶל יוֹנָה לָבוֹא בָעִיר מַהֲלַךְ יוֹם אֶחָד וַיִּקְרָא וַיֹּאמַר עוֹד אַרְבָּעִים יוֹם וְנִינְוֵה נֶהְפָּכֶת" (יונה ג' 4)
יונה קורא ואומר: "עוד ארבעים יום ונינוה נהפכת" – בימים אלה נמשכת בארץ מחאת הנכים; הם חוסמים כבישים ומפגינים באגרסיביות. חברתה של אחותי הגיעה באחור לפגישתן והתנצלה: "איזו חוצפה, הם מעכבים את כולם..." . אחותי ענתה לה: "אינך יודעת מה את סחה, אין לך מושג אלה קשיים נערמים בפני הנכים ולכמה כסף ועזרה הם זקוקים בכדי לבצע פעולות פשוטות!"
ובאמת אמרו חז"ל: "אינך יכול לשפוט אדם עד שלא תגיע למקומו". כל פגם קטן במדרכה מהווה מכשול גדול לאדם היושב בכסא גלגלים; אנשים, מבלי להתכוון לרעה, חוסמים מדרכות או חונים בצמוד לצד מכונית הנכה במקום בו אמור המעלון ההדראולי להפתח ומונעים מן הנכה כניסה לרכבו. ישנם גם כאלה שכוונתם רעה – נדב בני חנה במרכז המסחרי בקבוץ יגור בחניית נכים מסומנת, אך נהגת חנתה כה צמוד למכוניתו עד כי נבצר ממנו להוריד את המעלון כדי לעלות למכונית. במשך 20 דקות ארוכות חיפש את הגברת וכשהגיעה לבסוף, החלה לצעוק עליו כאילו הוא אשם בדבר מה...
ככלל, אני חושבת כי למזלם הטוב, אנשים אינם מודעים לקשיים העומדים בפני כל נכה – פשוט כי לא חוו זאת על בשרם. חינוך נכון יכול לעזור.
